"Calling somebody else fat won't make you any skinnier. Calling someone stupid doesn't make you any smarter. And ruining Regina George's life definitely didn't make me any happier. All you can do in life is try to solve the problem in front of you."
Mean Girls is one of my favourite films of all time - not only because of the brilliant story, relevance to life or just overall greatness - but for this quote. Every time I think a bad thing about someone or say something bad about them, I try to remember this and I realise that my words aren't going to solve anything.
It's no secret that we all put too much pressure on ourselves and we all want to be perfect but we're not perfect and that's okay. We weren't made to be perfect, we were made to grow and change and learn. No-one said life was going to be easy but we all have to go through it so we might as well do what makes us happy.
Although we all want to be tanned, tall and thin, who said that we were meant to be that way? We were made to look different so why are we all striving for the same thing? I downloaded an app recently that explained how the purpose of life is to satisfy our dissatisfaction (you can download it here https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/the-meaning-of-life/id507794199?mt=8) and that dissatisfaction is a human response. No matter how much money or friends or clothes or cars you have, it will never be enough so learn to accept what you have and to be happy with it. Of course there's nothing wrong with dreaming but don't forget to enjoy where you are whilst you dream of where you will be.
We are programmed to not be happy with ourselves so don't let it drag you down. No number can define you, no word can describe you, only you can be you.
We also all spend too much time comparing ourselves to others. We can ignore the flaws in others but can't get past them in ourselves yet we all need to learn to love ourselves before we can begin to love others.
I take a lot of joy out of spending my evening looking at http://justgirlythings.tumblr.com/ because it makes me look forward to the future and know that I am completely in control yet so many people criticise the website for only using "skinny girls" in their pictures. But why are these people focusing so much on the people in the background and not the message or the feeling it gives us? Why are they saying they'll never be "like them"? Why do they need to be like them? You have no duty to be like anyone else or to be better than them so just do what you do and don't worry about the rest of the world.
Everyone is perfect just the way they are and if anyone ever makes you feel like you're not then they don't deserve to have a part in your life. We've all been called names and we've all called other people names but what is one word in our lives? Yes it hurts, yes it's hard to take but do we have to conform to it? No. Just because someone calls you fat doesn't mean you are. Just because someone calls you mean or selfish or nasty doesn't mean you are and it doesn't mean you have to be either. You should never change you for someone else.
You are you and that's all that matters.
If you take anything at all from any of posts it's to never stop being you to be like someone else. You can change and you can do things differently but don't do it to please someone else, do it to better you and to help you move forward.
